Why are we making this change?

As a responsible Trust we are always looking at what we do and how we achieve our primary aims to pay tribute those who have died in the course of their duties.

After to period of consideration and review and taking many factors into account, the Trust have decided to move the annual ‘Service of Remembrance’ from September to May, so as to more closely associate the event with ‘Firefighters Memorial Day’ (4 May) which the Trust is now promoting as being a national day to commemorate all members of the Fire and Rescue Service, past and present and, in particular, to remember those who have died or who have been injured in the course of their duties.

We felt it important to align our Service of Remembrance (as opposed to our ‘Service of Thanksgiving’) with Firefighters Memorial Day, so as to raise awareness and better promote engagement of all fire stations across the UK in what we hope will become a recognised annual day for the Fire and Rescue Service

In this transition year and, to concentrate on settling into a new model, Trustees have decided to take a break from holding an event at the Arboretum. A project to look at making improvements to the Arboretum garden will also now commence.

The Trust will always strive to seek ways to best reflect its Royal Charter and stated aims, taking into account changing circumstances, priorities and our ask of Fire and Rescue Services and our many supporters.
